Software Reviews of iWork '09Customer Review: Incompatible, Poor Interface Summary: 1 StarsI've used Macs since 2005 and PCs since 1985. I have been a heavy spreadsheet user since '85 and have many spreadsheets from various versions of office. When I bought by MB Pro 3 months ago I was led to believe that iWork is compatible with Excel spreadsheets. The fact is it opens them, edits them, and saves them in such a messed up format they are essentially corrupted.
I have spent hours fixing Excel spreadsheets corrupted by this software. Compatible - NOT
I am used to poorly written Apple software (hello Quicktime and iTunes) running on excellent hardware and have put up with it until now. I am switching to Office for Mac.
Customer Review: Keynote excellent, Pages and Numbers not great Summary: 4 StarsiWork is a well constructed office suit which, while well laid out and aesthetically pleasing, misses the mark for professional level document and spreadsheet construction.
Not enough can be said about Keynote. Apple's finesse for visual production is a natural fit for presentation software and Keynote continues to edge out Powerpoint in both usability as well as aiding in image alignment and manipulation as well as text positioning, easily saving data, animations and templates.
Pages is adequate for small documents and excels at producing high quality layouts SPECIFICALLY with graphics. It does poorly with larger documents and poorly interfaces with Microsoft Word when images or tables are incorporated. The .docx extension is poorly supported in Pages. The layout is considerably more clear than Word 2008 for Mac and it's infinitely easier to use.
Numbers is ineffectual for serious spreadsheet work, particularly for work in the sciences. Again, it helps produce attractive documents with nice graphs, but if the purpose is to produce a working spreadsheet for more complicated statistical analysis, it falls short by wide margins of Origin or even Excel.
Customer Review: Me Likee!! Summary: 5 StarsThe iWork '09 suite is great! Templates in Pages make paper writing a breeze. Takes the guess work out, and you don't have to recreate the wheel every time. You see the example layouts and you type right over them, with a sleek, professional end-product. I haven't explored the other programs yet(Keynote and Numbers), so I can't say too much about them.
Customer Review: I HEART IWORK! :) Summary: 5 StarsDefinitely a whole lot better than the Microsoft alternative! The graphics are beautiful and the creativity is unmatched...can't stop raving about it! I HEART APPLE! :D
Customer Review: installation nightmare Summary: 1 StarsI made the foolish mistake of installing the free trial for 30 days, then bought the disk to install before the trial was over.
I tried installing the software (didn't uninstall the trial first) and now the software is asking me for a serial number (note that no serial number is provided on the disk or the box).
I contacted online chat that told me it should just install. They advised me to call Applecare between 9am and 5pm (I work during the day - duh). I guess the chat people don't have the authority to fix
this sort of problem.
So basically now I own a disk that won't install for over $70.
Not sure if I should just return it or what.
