Software Reviews of MobileMe [OLD VERSION]Customer Review: Same software, but cheaper!! Summary: 5 StarsThis is exactly the same software that Apple sells at their website for $99, so why would you buy it from them when you can get it here cheaper!! I have been doing this for over 3 years now, and as long as they continue to offer it for cheaper, I will continue to renew my subscription through Amazon.
Customer Review: Good concept Summary: 4 StarsI have been a .Mac/MobileMe member for several years & this is a wonderful product for those with multiple computers (especially in different locations).
Customer Review: Do not buy this product Summary: 1 StarsDo not buy Mobileme if you want to keep your contacts intact.
While synching with my new iPhone, MobileMe created three copies of all contacts and when I tried to erase the copies, it erased over 800 contacts that cannot be recovered. I'm not the only one, check the customer blog in MobileMe page for an amazing number of lost data stories.
In addition if you subscribe to MobileMe you will not be able to talk to a person about your problem. You'll have to find the iChat in the MobileMe page (it took an Apple rep ten minutes to find it) and then you will wait 30-60 minutes for someone who knows little or nothing to help you. It is a waste of money. Google does it for free and it won't loose your contacts.
Customer Review: mobile me review Summary: 5 StarsAs with all Apple products, innovation and cutting edge technology is what is evident in this software! It is a bit pricey, so buy it on Amazon and save about 30%. It is a yearly subscription, so be prepared to renew it at who knows what cost in a year. One of the best features is being able to publish your iweb-created website on mobile me. Sooooo easy!
Customer Review: The 1990's called and they want their email application back! Summary: 1 StarsAm switching from a Blackberry to an iphone. Thought Mobileme would be the best solution to get my business email into the phone. I have my business email brought in through POP to my blackberry, so I thought I would do the same through Mobileme while also using this piece of software to bring in and be my primary app for my calendar and contacts. So began the "want to drill a hole in my head with a butterknife" frustration. Was up until midnight. There is no option to only load emails going forward; it continued to try to load the thousand emails on the mail server. Then when it is loading, it takes so long that you don't know if it's crashed or if you've accidentally triggered a worm whole and time has stopped. Do not have a bottle of hard spirits next to you while doing this as you will empty it in your gullet then fill it with gasoline, top it with a wick and fire bomb your computer as you wait for it to load. Yes, it's that bad.
If you're in a similar situation, then I warn you, you will be disappointed with Mobileme. I use yahoo for my "garbage can" collection point for various personal email addresses. I thought yahoo was a little clunky. Compared to mobileme, it's a very high tech and quick application that I longed for with outstretched arms as I worked with Mobileme. Even the instructions were unclear for Mobileme. Had to search outside of their help to find solutions and then try to figure out which preferences I needed to change.
Mobileme email is slooooooow, option bare and very Chevy Camaro - looks sexy but drives, well, like a Chevy. Have I mentioned the loading symbol appears so often that it's a joke? I had to leave the room to wait for email because I wanted to whip my computer against the wall. I did mention that. You have been warned.
I wanted to use mobileme and this new iphone for business and have tremendous post-purchase regret as I LOVED my blackberry curve because it was a work horse and was fast and so usable.
This morning, I transferred all to Google calendar, contacts and email. Seems this will be a better solution. While I ate the cost of mobileme, at least I'll get iDisk (which I'm guessing a similar solution is available from another vendor for cheap for the iphone) and the "lost your iphone, find your iphone on a map" service, so I got that going for me. But if you're looking for the basics, then skip this fail of a solution. Again, it's July 1, 2009 and still clunky. Just go gmail, google calendar and google contacts. Also, if you're in love with your Blackberry, then you may not want to switch to an iphone. For me, the jury is still out. Doubt that it can match the usability and overall speed of use of the blackberry. Mobileme sure isn't helping.
