Software Reviews of MobileMe [OLD VERSION]Customer Review: Cheaper [OLD VERSION], gives you all the same functionality. Summary: 3 StarsI was worried to purchase a product which was labeled as [OLD VERSION], but the important thing is the Activation code which worked without any problems. When I purchased it about a month ago, this product was $[...] which is a pretty good deal compared to the original $[...]. (The price has now gone up to $[...].)
I purchased MobileMe to go along with my MacBook and iPhone and be able to access my calendars from the website at work. As expected, everything works nice and smooth on both the Mac and the iPhone. In the Mac all you have to do is set up MobileMe from System Preferences and in a couple of minutes you can have all your data on each new Mac that you use. Setting up the iPhone is just as simple as adding a new email account. You have the choice to merge your date or replace it. What can be sometimes a bit confusing is syncing through iTunes. I find it better to leave all iTunes syncing off (except for iPod content), and let MobileMe sync your contacts, mail and calendars over the air.
The weakest point of MobileMe is definitely the experience on the website. At work I only have access to Internet Explorer 7 or 8. Both will give you a "not fully supported, download Firefox or Safari" message when you are logging in. Using the me.com website is terrible on IE. Here is a list of (bad) things that I noticed when using Mail in me.com:
- When you are typing in a window either forwarding or replying to a message, the whole window content flickers or "jumps" with every keystroke.
- You are not able to edit messages quoted in forwards or replies.
- You are not able to paste images into any message as you are able to in gmail.
- Editing text color, font size, etc. is extremely limited.
- Your inbox reloads when you receive new mail, rather than just getting updated like gmail. It becomes annoying to stare at the loading screen for approximately 5 seconds every time this happens.
Using Mail at me.com is very lacking of may features that every mail service already has. The integration of contacts and calendars with Mail is pretty weak as well.
One of the other reasons that I was interested in MobileMe is for the new "Find My iPhone" feature. I've tested this out with my iPhone at my desk with poor results. As locating yourself in google maps works on the iphone, my location was narrowed down to about a 1.5 km radius which is a very large area to cover if you cannot find your iPhone and your iPhone is not being moved. Unless my iPhone was in motion, walking or in a car, the Find My iPhone feature has been pretty useless. The upside is: if you lose it at home, you can send a constant ring even if it's on vibrator, or you can send a command to delete all info if your iPhone was stolen.
Overall using the service is great on your Mac and iPhone. But using the website on IE7, IE8 or Firefox (I did not test Safari)on a PC, will give you an annoying experience with very limited and slow Mail, Contacts and Calendar.
Customer Review: Excellent Choice of Update. Summary: 5 StarsDon't let the Old Version" discourage you because it works the same as the "New Version."
Customer Review: Mobil Me for Me or U Summary: 5 StarsOld version or New, it's all the same to Apple when you start or renew your Mobli Me account. This saves you MONEY!!
Customer Review: Fast processing and shipment...good seller Summary: 5 StarsThe transaction went very well, and not long after placing the order was it out of there door. Very few companies I've bought from on amazon (other then Amazon themselves) ship things out this fast. Usually its like 2-3 days after you place the order do they finally send it out but not these guys. Thanks a bunch, MobileMe works like a charm :)
Customer Review: It saved me $$ every month. Summary: 4 StarsI used to work two jobs, where my Macbook was how I could maintain my own business when I was away from the office. Trying to gain access to my Mac at home was a nightmare. Remote access through some web services was getting very costly ($12 - $50/month) and the speed was horrible. I also hated trying to remember to sync the files that were on a hosted disk. I found out about remote access via Mobile Me (and easy access to file sharing), and have NEVER looked back. Not only is access between my laptop and desktop seamless and fast, but I also can access my files anywhere without having to worry "Did I sync this file? Is the version on my laptop the most recent?". Who cares, just tap into my iMac at home and I am covered. I think $99/year (I got the new version) was well worth it for me when remote access is a lifeline to my business and staying on top of things. I personally don't use the sync for mail, but I do use it for contacts with my iPhone and that helps me a lot too. Not sure why it didn't get better stars here on Amazon - but I do love it myself.
