Software Reviews of MobileMe Family Pack [OLD VERSION]Customer Review: Mobile ME may have issues - but This price is GREAT. Summary: 5 StarsWe all know mobile me is not the greatest service...it is truly witnessing growing pains on a regular basis....it will someday get better. We have owned a family pack for a couple of years and it was coming up for renewal...Apple charges $149 to renew the entire family and Amazon, $101....the choice was clear. We bought it on Amazon and received it in 2 days....the box contains a code that you have to type in on a website to start the renewal process. Quite easy. Simply put...if you use the service for the family and you need to renew...save some money and buy it on Amazon.
5/5 on the Renewal pack - I am not trying to rate the service in this review.
Customer Review: Worth it Summary: 5 StarsIt seems a little expensive until you consider how much easier it makes everything, then its worth it.
Customer Review: Decent for what all you get Summary: 4 StarsI have to say that when I saw the price for the mobile me I thought "this is terrible". [...]$ for an email account? How crazy is that? I then signed up for the free trial to try it out. I didn't think I was going to use all of the features, but as it turned out the different things you can do with your mobile me account is actually not bad for the price. You get things all wrapped into one package that you would normally need to use multiple sites, services, and programs for. Can you get all of these things for cheaper from other sources? Sure you can, but then you have to keep track of your flicker, gmail, google calender, accounts separately, and even then you would need to keep all of the software together. Are you paying a price for convenience? Of course you are, but when you look at all the services mobile me replaces and the convenience of having everything in one place (not to mention the built in support for syncing on all macs and ipod / iphone mobile devices) the "cost" of the service really isn't all too terrible a price, and when you break down the pricing you are really paying [...] bucks / month for some really great services.
Pros:
1) Having all your email, contacts, pictures, web pages, file sharing, in one place.
2) Having access to all the stuff in #1 on all your mac (and pc) devices
3) VERY simple to use and easy to set up
4) Technical support and help if you have problems (Can you call Google to help you with email problems on your free service? Nope, didn't think so).
5) Easily share your calendars between all your family members at one convenient location using the same software.
Cons:
1) Price Price Price (although it is cheaper if you buy through amazon than auto renewal)
2) Does not sync with exchange or outlook using exchange (although I think this feature will be added soon)
3) Web interface is clunky at times, and you get that annoying screen about internet explorer when you attempt to use it to interface with the web client.
Customer Review: A Must Have... Summary: 5 StarsIf you have an iPhone, this is a *MUST HAVE*. Especially if you want to have your contacts synced up between your work and between your house. Also, the ability to have a calendar with you on any machine you use is a huge advantage.
Customer Review: Beware... Mobile Me is a terrible service (at least, if you use Outlook) Summary: 1 StarsIf you use Outlook, then I advise against using Mobile Me.
Mobile Me has problems syncing with Outlook. It generates sync errors, and it STRIPS OUT certain data fields such as Categories (e.g. Personal, Business, Friends & Family, Hot Contacts, etc.). Apple Support confirmed that Mobile Me strips out these fields, and they have no plans to fix it. Apple is also keeping my $$, apologized, said they "understand how I must feel", and are not allowing refunds (even for brand new purchases).
My advise: Stay away. This is a terrible service. Even if Apple paid us to use it, it's not worth it when it means losing your data.
