Software Reviews of Apple Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger [OLD VERSION]Customer Review: Mac OS X 10.4 is awesome Summary: 5 StarsI heard horror stories about the difficulty in setting up the new Tiger which couldn't be further from the truth. Tiger installed easily over my old OS Nine with no difficulty. It was also easy to navigate and learn new features. It is way overpriced but a good product.
Customer Review: A little faster; easy to install Summary: 4 StarsThis was easy enough to install that my 10 year old was able to do it. We had to do the complete reinstall because our previous Mac OS X version was too old to be upgraded. I think it performs better than that Mac OS version.
Customer Review: Tiger on an iBook Summary: 5 StarsI recently installed Tiger on my 1GHz Apple iBook, I was upgrading from 10.3.9. When installing, either do an Archive and Install or what I did; erase the entire hard drive (after backing it up first) and install a fresh OS. It was like getting a new Mac, it is noticeably faster. I really like the spotlight search feature and the Dashboard application. It comes on a DVD, so make sure your Mac can handle that. This is a worthwhile update in my opinion.
Customer Review: AWESOME - Just PERFECT Summary: 5 StarsBest OS in the universe. Ever. Don't even compare with Windows.
Customer Review: Great features, average performance Summary: 4 StarsCould say that I got everything I expected out of Tiger. My G4 iBook shipped with Panther, and I bought the upgrade because of three features: Dashboard, Spotlight, and improved Mail/Safari RSS.
Happy to say all three work like a charm. What doesn't work any better is my overall system performance. If anything, some apps take longer to start up, and some (most notably my old-school Diablo 2 game) actually run pretty slow. It seems that the Diablo issue is mostly related to openGL issues, which leaves me wondering what other openGL software would experience the same kind of hit.
Still, I'm glad I upgraded, which is what counts. Smart mailboxes in Mail 2.0 are great for helping me quickly sort and trim my inbox, and dashboard is every bit as cool as it looks, although some 3rd-party widgets leave a little to be desired.
